Nashua to finalize 6 school hirings
NASHUA — Five new assistant principals have been recommended for city schools, with education officials expected to approve their positions this week.
“There has been a lot of hiring work done in recent weeks,” Superintendent Mark Conrad said. “We are so pleased with the quality of candidates we have received.”
Public interviews with the finalists took place last week in front of the Board of Education's Human Resources Committee. Conrad is recommending that all five candidates — four of them are already working within the district — be hired to fill various vacancies. Dennis Hamilton, who has been a member of the Nashua High School North special education teaching staff since 2003, has been chosen as the new assistant principal for Nashua High School South.
Hamilton has a degree from Tufts University and a master's in education from the University of New Hampshire; he will complete a principal certification from New England College in spring 2013. His recommended salary is $80,983.
Lesa McQuestion, who has been serving as an interim assistant principal at Nashua North, is anticipated to continue in that role. McQuestion is a longtime business teacher with the Nashua Technology Center, and has degrees from Southern New Hampshire University and a master's in education with a concentration in school administration from New England College. The recommended salary is $80,983.
A second assistant principal slot at Nashua North will be filled by Sharon Wilson, who is currently an acting assistant principal at Manchester's Central High School. She is a former English teacher in Manchester and Goffstown, and has a degree in English, a master's in teaching and a certification of advanced graduate studies. Her suggested salary is $81,792.
Delese Hovey, a teacher on special assignment for kindergarten through grade eight math and science curriculum, will now serve as assistant principal at Broad Street Elementary.
According to Conrad, Hovey will split her time between Broad Street Elementary and the district's curriculum office as a specialist working to develop the Common Core. She has degrees in elementary and special education, and a master's in education from New England College. Her recommended salary is $71,828.
Tiffany Hyatt, a former teacher at Mt. Pleasant Elementary, has been chosen as the new assistant principal at Ledge Street Elementary.
She has degrees in psychology and elementary education, and will complete a master's in education from Rivier College next month. Her suggested salary is $71,828.
Elizabeth Doiron has been selected as new co-director for the Nashua Technology Center at Nashua North. She is currently director of career and technical programs for the Community College System of New Hampshire.
According to Conrad, Doiron will offer a wealth of experience in school-to-career transition programming at the high school. She has a degree in sociology, a master's in management and school administration, and an educational leadership principal certification. Her recommended salary is $82,000.
The Board of Education is expected to finalize the six hirings at its next meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at the Nashua High School North board room.
