Zimmerman House a classic example of Frank Lloyd Wright's artistry
Frank Lloyd Wright not only designed the 1950 Zimmerman house, the famous architect (1867-1959) extended his vision through to the home's interior, furniture, gardens and even the mailbox.
That signature style led the building in 1979 to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Zimmermans, the original owners who lived in the house for 36 years, left the property to Currier Museum of Art in 1988, and in 1990 the house and grounds were opened so that visitors could enjoy glimpses of a private world from the 1950s and 1960s, including the Zimmermans' personal collection of modern art, pottery and sculpture.
This summer, tours of the house will depart from the Currier Museum, at 150 Ash St. and are scheduled for Thursdays through Mondays at 11:30 am and 2 p.m.
An associated program, a film screening of the Wright documentary “Romanza,” is scheduled for 4 p.m. Thursday, June 28, at the museum. Director Michael Miner will introduce his film and take questions after the viewing.
In addition, “Landscaping a Usonian: The Zimmerman House Garden Tour” is scheduled for Sundays, July 15, and Aug. 19, at 3:30 p.m.
Also, a Focus tour titled “Linens, Tables and Chairs! Oh My! Fabrics and Furnishings at the Zimmerman House” is slated for 3:30 p.m. Saturday, July 21, and Zimmerman House Twilight Tours are planned for 5 and 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2.
Call 669-6144, ext. 108, or go to currier.org for reservations.
Cost ranges from $8 to $20 and includes admission to the Currier Museum on the day of the tour.
