Long wait worth a win in Powerball

MANCHESTER — Ten years of playing the same numbers paid off for long-time Powerball fan Mark Pare who claimed his $1 million winnings Thursday.

“I never though in a million years that I would win a million dollars,” the Manchester truck driver said in a statement.

Pare played Powerball twice a week for the last 10 years — playing the same combination of numbers drawn from birthdays and special dates.

It paid off Saturday when the winning ticket came in 4-16-32-37-46.

Had Pare also picked the Powerball number — 13 — he would have taken home the $90 million jackpot. There were no jackpot winners Saturday.

Pare bought the wining ticket at N & K Market at 374 Pearl St.

“He was very happy,” store clerk Dinesh Bhandari said. Pare didn’t learn he had won until Wednesday when he came into the store with his ticket, said Bhandari, who sold Pare the ticket.

This is the first time N & K Market sold a winning ticket. It will receive a $10,000 retailer incentive check.

New Hampshire Lottery Commission officials presented Pare with a ceremonial oversized check for his one-time cash prize of $1 million at lottery headquarters in Concord. He will receive his official after-tax prize of $750,000 in a few days.

“Mark’s been a loyal lottery player and longtime player of Powerball, so presenting the check to him today was such a great feeling,” New Hampshire Lottery Commission chairman Debra Douglas said.
