Ouellette trial is set for October

MANCHESTER — A now-resigned alderman, accused of sexual assault, simple assault and false imprisonment, is scheduled for arraignment and trial Oct. 31 in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division.

Russell Ouellette, 45, of 351 Wayne St., who submitted his resignation Wednesday, is accused of assaulting a woman he met at Raxx Billiards on Elm Street a week ago.

Court documents show a bartender reported, and video surveillance showed, Ouellette spoke with the 53-year-old woman shortly before closing time, paid her bar tab and left with her about 1:15 a.m. July 12.

The woman and Ouellette both told police they agreed to go to Wendy's on S. Willow Street to get something to eat, but, according to the court documents, their accounts of what happened after that differ radically.

The woman alleges Ouellette assaulted her repeatedly, verbally solicited sexual activity and kept her from leaving his truck. Police said she called 911 for help, pretending she was speaking to her son, which prompted police to locate and stop Ouellette's vehicle at Maple and Valley streets shortly after the woman's 2:14 a.m. call.

Ouellette initially told police he saw the woman for the first time on the sidewalk outside the bar, where he said she was crying, and he offered her a ride. He told police she said she was hungry and wanted a cheeseburger and he offered to take her to Wendy's.

He later said he walked out the back door of Raxx and saw the woman walking around the parking lot looking for a ride and he offered her one and took her to Wendy's, where a copy of the receipt from the drive-through order showed it was filled at 1:56 a.m., about 45 minutes after they left Raxx.

The court documents show Ouellette denied making any stops along the way to Wendy's and denied touching the woman or holding her against her will.

Ouellette told police he had about six alcoholic drinks that night, but was not intoxicated, did not pay the woman's bar tab and doesn't know who she is.

Ouellette surrendered to police Monday, after warrants were issued for his arrest, and was released on $10,000 cash/surety bail. He had been scheduled for arraignment Thursday in Circuit Court, but his attorney, James Rosenberg, Wednesday filed a motion waiving the initial court appearance.

Ouellette, a longtime Postal Service employee, was a school board member before being elected Ward 11 alderman in 2007.
