Oil firm owner faces $2.57 million lien for personal taxes
MANCHESTER — The U.S. Internal Revenue Service has placed $2.57 million in tax liens against local oil firm owner Frederick J. Fuller for tax years 2006, 2007 and 2008.
“The tax lien is a 1040 filing which is for personal taxes and is not related to any business owned by Mr. Fuller,” said attorney Simon C. Leeming, a director with the Preti Flaherty law firm.
The IRS disclosed the liens in a “Notice of Federal Tax Lien” filed July 17 with the Hillsborough County Register of Deeds.
IRS spokeswoman Peggy Riley said the agency could not comment because of taxpayer privacy.
Attorney Leeming, representing Fuller, said, “Mr. Fuller's tax attorneys and accountants have been working with the IRS, and the lien is a precautionary filing, filed by the IRS, and we fully expect the matter to be completely resolved within the next few weeks,” Leeming said.
Frederick J. Fuller is president of Fred Fuller Oil & Propane Co., Inc., which is based at 12 Tracy Lane in Hudson.
In a phone call, Fuller said he has a meeting with IRS scheduled for Monday at which he expects two of the three tax years at issue to be resolved.
Fuller Oil has facilities in Bridgewater, Derry, Goffstown, Hudson, Laconia, Milford, Moultonborough and Northfield.
The lien lists Fuller's address as 1345 Union St., Manchester. According to city assessor's records, Fuller owns a condominium at 300 River Road in Manchester.
The IRS lien shows Fuller had unpaid taxes of $1,765,709.18 for 2006, $234,762.74 for 2007 and $569,671.00 for 2008.
Once a lien is in place, the IRS generally cannot release the lien until the taxes, penalties, interest and recording fees are paid in full or until the IRS may no longer legally collect the tax, according to an IRS fact sheet.
Fuller, 64, faces a pretrial conference Nov. 15 on a misdemeanor sexual assault charge dating back to last summer.
A female acquaintance, 29, reportedly told police that Fuller assaulted her in Hudson last July. Fuller entered a not guilty plea.
