Erie squeezes by Fisher Cats, 3-2

MANCHESTER — A seventh-inning squeeze was the difference in Erie's 3-2 victory over the Fisher Cats in Wednesday's matinee.

Brandon Douglas went hitless but drove in the game winner with a sacrifice bunt toward third base, plating Avisail Garcia for the go-ahead run before a crowd of 6,831 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Fisher Cats starter Yohan Pino, strong for seven innings, was positioned for the win until Erie's two-run rally. Jordan Lennerton led off the seventh with a walk and moments later scored on Garcia's double to left field.

Pino (5-7) gave up one run in the second inning and later retired 10 consecutive SeaWolves, Double-A affiliate of the Tigers. Pino allowed three runs on four hits in the tough-luck loss, fanning four and walking two. The All-Star right-hander has yielded only three runs in his past two starts and 13 innings.

New Hampshire managed three hits against Erie lefty Jared Wesson, who improved to 7-6 in the quality start. In the third, Koby Clemens walked and switch-hitter John Tolisano belted a two-run homer to left field to give the Fisher Cats a 2-1 lead.

Tolisano, Jake Marisnick, Brad Glenn and Brian Van Kirk had the only hits for last-place New Hampshire, which dropped to 43-68. Erie, stuck in last-place in the Western Division, improved to 49-61.
