BRENTWOOD — A grand jury has returned nine charges against a Salem man who allegedly threatened his girlfriend with a shotgun before being taken down by police with a Taser.

Jeryn Savage, 24, was indicted on a variety of felony charges for allegedly strangling and threatening the woman during a domestic assault on May 27.

Indictments say Savage chased his girlfriend’s parents out of their trailer, located at 29 Lowell Road, and said, “Where are you going?” while armed with a shotgun.

At one point, Savage told the woman’s parents he wished they were dead while brandishing the firearm, according to police.

Savage, who remains held at the Rockingham County jail, was also indicted on a misdemeanor count of endangering the welfare of a child for allegedly carrying out the assault in front of his 10-month-old baby.

Prosecutors say the assault began while Savage was driving with his girlfriend and the infant.

Salem police were called to the woman’s home at Cole’s Trailer Park around 4:56 p.m. for a report of an armed man was inside a trailer with an infant.

Police said Savage had punched holes in the walls of the trailer unit and repeatedly assaulted his girlfriend.

The woman had visible injuries to her face, head and neck, according to police.

Police ordered Savage to drop the shotgun and get on the ground but he refused, telling officers “they would have to shoot him,” according to police.

One officer fired a Taser sending Savage to the ground, while other police officers kept their guns trained on the 24-year-old, police said. Savage was then taken into custody.

Savage was booked at the police station where he received treatment for scrapes on his head. He was injured when he fell to the ground after being hit with the Taser, police said.

The felony charges against Savage include second-degree assault, attempted second-degree assault, reckless conduct, two counts of criminal threatening, and two counts of felon in possession of a deadly weapon.

Savage faces up to 10 to 20 years in state prison on the two counts of criminal threatening. The remaining felony charges are punishable by up to 3½ to 7 years in state prison. Savage will be arraigned on the charges later this month in superior court.
