Southern New Hampshire University names Fallacaro athletics director

Southern New Hampshire University has a new director of athletics and recreation.

Anthony Fallacaro, the director of athletics at Post University since September 2006, will begin his new duties on May 27.

Fallacaro succeeds Chip Polak, who served as director of athletics for 36 years before retiring last December.

When Polak stepped down, the university, led by President Paul LeBlanc, started a nationwide search.

Fallacaro will oversee 16 varsity athletic programs and will be part of a plan to offer four new sports over the next three years, starting with women's golf next academic year.

SNHU also plans to undertake an athletics facility feasibility study in the near future.

At Post, a Division II school in Waterbury, Conn., Fallacaro oversaw a department that offers 17 varsity intercollegiate programs. During his tenure, Post added eight new sports: cheerleading, sprint football, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's outdoor track and field, and men's and women's swimming. He oversaw extensive renovations to LaMoy Field, Post's primary outdoor competition and practice facility.

Fallacaro established an extensive corporate sponsorship program for Post athletics, signing sponsorship contracts with several national and regional companies, and managed fundraising solicitation of athletics alumni.

On the field, Post captured eight Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference championships during his tenure, and the Eagles had an average of 24 CACC Academic All-Conference and 11 All-CACC selections per year.

Fallacaro also served as director of athletics at Kingsborough Community College (Brooklyn, N.Y.) during the 2005-06 academic year.

From 2003-05, Fallacaro served as assistant director for athletics programs at his alma mater, St. John's University in Queens, N.Y.

A baseball student-athlete at St. John's, Fallacaro got his start in athletics as an assistant baseball coach at Manhattan College from 1995-1997 before returning to his alma mater from 1997-99 in a similar capacity. Between stints at St. John's, Fallacaro did a stint on Wall Street as a supervisor on the trading desk at Investec Ernst & Co.

Fallacaro graduated from St. John's in 1994 with a degree in athletic administration.
