Origin:
Named for Dr. Josiah Bartlett, the first chief executive to bear the name governor, a representative to the Continental Congress, and one of New Hampshire's three signers of the Declaration of Independence, placing his signature directly under that of John Hancock. Dr. Bartlett founded the New Hampshire Medical Society in 1791. The town includes the villages of Glen, Lower Bartlett, and Intervale.

More about Bartlett:
Bartlett is home to Attitash Bear Peak, a year-round destination for recreation. In the winter, the two mountains provide guests with 70 trails for skiers of all abilities. During summer months, the resort offers horseback riding, waterslides, a skate park, scenic sky rides, mountainboarding and a downhill alpine slide. From here, you'll see amazing views of the White Mountains in all directions and the thrill ride down the mountain will be memorable for years to come.

Another great family destination can be found in nearby Glen. Storyland, an amusement park, is the Disney World of New Hampshire; and Heritage New Hampshire, located right next door, is a walk back in time through 25 theatrical sets. Heritage is often a destination for school field trips.
